How to Sort in Package Chaos

Five inspection axes that decide whether a box is actually a match.

How to Sort Packages

Sorting is the whole game. FunTap Games wrote it on the Steam page in one sentence: pick up, inspect, and sort thousands of unique packages by size, colors, logos, labels, and special handling marks. Players skip the inspect. They grab two brown rectangles, call them a pair, and then spend the next hour unstacking a lie. This page is the anti-lie version of Getting Started.

You will still need how to stack once a true match exists. You will still spend money on skills. Sorting comes first because a perfect tower in the wrong family is just vertical chaos.

The five axes, in the order you should actually use them

1. Size. Size is the cheap filter. A long electronics carton does not live in a cube gap, even if the tape color rhymes. Size also predicts carry pain. Too Heavy exists; two “matches” that are both huge are a trap if you have not upgraded carry yet.

2. Color. Color gets you into a neighborhood. It is not an identity. FunTap says packages have their own identity — electronics, collectibles, fragile goods, special shipments. A blue tape stripe can appear on more than one family. Use color to shorten the walk, then keep inspecting.

3. Logo and product art. Official shots show an A / Priority Mail shipping face plus a product picture — Microphone, Mini PC, Frozen Pizza, Gold Bar. Matching SKUs is the first identity confirm. If two cartons share brown cardboard and nothing else, they are strangers. If they share the same product art, you are close. Magnet Hand later vacuums more of that SKU off the floor, which is why a wrong SKU in your hand is an expensive mistake.

4. Label. Labels are the paperwork. They catch the near-miss that logos miss: same brand, different SKU, different destination bay. Read the label every time the logo looks right and the size feels slightly off. The package types page talks about families. Labels tell you which sibling you are holding.

5. Special handling marks. Fragile stamps, this-way-up arrows, keep-dry icons, special shipment flashes. These marks override “it would look cute here.” If a handling mark says the box is special, it does not go under a kettlebell of collectibles. Protect those with the habits on tips and fragile goods.

If you only remember one sentence: color is a rumor, the label is a witness, the handling mark is the law.

A floor method that scales to 4,096

4,096 is a large number. You cannot sort it as one pile. Use identity batches.

  1. Stand still and pick a single axis you can see from here — one logo, or one handling mark, not “all the brown.”
  2. Walk a short radius. Pick up only boxes that survive inspect. Put rejects back down in a reject row, not back into the original heap. A reject row is still chaos, but it is indexed chaos.
  3. When you have a real set, park it on the shelf that already believes in that identity. If no shelf believes yet, found one. Do not found five.
  4. Stop the batch before the aisle closes. Walking space is a sorting tool. The stacking guide explains why.
  5. Only then spend money. Sorting creates income; skills spend it. See the skills tier list when a batch feels slow for mechanical reasons, not because you were sloppy.

The sorting checklist is this method without the essay.

False matches you will swear are real

  • Same brown, different logo. Cardboard is not a category.
  • Same logo, different label. Brand is not SKU.
  • Same color tape, different handling mark. Tape is decoration; fragile is a rule.
  • Same size cube, different everything. Cube is the most common lie in organizing games. Inspect the fifth face.
  • “It is electronics-shaped.” FunTap named electronics as a family, not as a license to dump every black carton together. Look at the mark.

When you feel emotional certainty, rotate the box. Certainty is usually the uninspected face.

How sorting talks to achievements

Steam lists First Stocked, 100 Stocked, 1,000 Stocked, and Shelf Complete among the 12 achievements. Stocking is sorted placement, not floor-clearing. You can empty an aisle into a random mountain and still have zero honest stock. If you want the achievement language, read achievements. If you want the behavior, keep using the five axes until a bay looks like one identity.

Skill Check and Skill Veteran sit next to those stocking achievements on purpose. FunTap expects the loop to be: inspect, stock, earn, upgrade, inspect better. Do not reverse it.

When sorting is the wrong page

If you already know the axes and the warehouse still feels like a maze, you need a route. That is the warehouse walkthrough. If your matches are true and the piles still eat the corridor, you need stacking, not another lecture about logos. If you are trying to decide whether the game is for you at all, the review is the honest pitch: cozy, first-person, single-player, $4.99, launched August 28, 2026.

Sorting is slow on purpose. The Steam page even sells the feeling of a perfectly organized warehouse. The way you get that feeling is not a hotkey. It is the boring courage to turn the box around.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common warehouse questions.

What should I sort by first in Package Chaos?

Filter by size to drop impossible placements, then confirm identity with logo and label. Color is only a neighborhood. Handling marks decide fragile and special shipments.

Why do two similar boxes refuse to stack cleanly?

They are probably not a true match. Recheck the label and handling mark, then read how to stack if the identity is actually the same.

Is there a search skill for packages?

FunTap confirmed you earn money and unlock skills. Until a patch names a search upgrade, inspect with your eyes. Rank whatever skills exist on the skills tier list.
